My name is Lee Thompson. Always a big fan of military/hard science fiction, I discovered anime in general in the mid 1980s. While some of it appealed, a lot of it didn't but I'd grab anything that came out that was more science fiction than the other sub-genres of anime. One night, chatting on the Animag BBS (yes, BBS :P ) I learned of Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu and it sounded great! Flash forward to 1991 where I got to see some of it (specifically episodes 20-24). I then bought the first movie and the entire first season boxed set on laserdisc. To date I have all four seasons, the two movies and Golden Wings on LD. I plan on eventually getting the Gaiden stuff but it's not quite as interesting for me as the 'main story arc'. (Interesting isn't really the right word, anti-climatic is probably the better word). For the most part, the anime I still like is a short list but Galactic Heroes will always be at the top of it. I believe it to be the best science fiction series of all time (in any country). I run the active-but-a-bit-behind website "Legend of the Galactic Heroes Info Center" and hang out on EFnet channels #logh, #sg-1, #sicon and #anime! most of the time. Recently, realizing that one reason why LoGH is currently unlicensed for the United States market is that a lot of anime fans think of it as a boring "talking heads" anime (which it is not! it just has more of what's called "a plot") - I began a project of making easy to get and watch fansubs using RealVideo (they are available on an FTP site being run by another listmember). Linked to the RealVideo project is an effort to get episodes past 42 translated and subtitled, it's slow going but 43-48 are in varying stages of completion. As timing is completed on scripts, they will be made available in SSA format. Recently, I purchased a genlock and plan on making a set of SVHS masters (for my own use). I'm 31 years old and am married. I had the opportunity to work with Trevor last summer, he may claim I made him bring me coffee which I didn't make him do - but I did make him debug uncommented code which he will never forgive me for. ;> -- Lee Thompson shadow@nwlink.com
