Um, anyway, I'm Jennifer Califf. I'm on a bunch of mailing lists, and I love lots of anime and manga, including Dragon Ball, Macross 7, Clamp stuff, Pokemon, One Piece, Gundam W (watch it on CN!! ^_^), Utena, and countless others, but LoGH is my absolute favorite anime series. It's primarily Walter's fault that I'm a fan of the series, so blame him. ^_^ When I started going to UT Austin in 1992, I decided to join the anime club. They had (and still have) a large library of tapes, most of which I'd never seen or heard of, so I decided to try watching as many different shows as possible. Then, I don't remember exactly when, I decided to try LoGH. I borrowed the first movie after hearing Walter and some others give it high praise. Being a big SF fan to begin with, I enjoyed it quite a bit. But it was still some time before I borrowed the 1st series. It wasn't until one night when they showed the movie during the meeting that I decided to watch the rest of the series. There's been no going back since then. After running out of subtitled episodes, I wasn't satisfied, so I then borrowed the unsubtitled 2nd series. That was the first anime I'd really tried to watch without subtitles. I mean, I'd seen others, but I usually just watched them without trying to figure out the dialogue - you can't do that very easily with LoGH, so that was the first one I was determined to figure out what the heck was going on. Not exactly an easy place to start, for a person with NO Japanese language skills except what I'd picked up from watching subs. It was frustrating, but I bought a couple of books and a Japanese dictionary, and I eventually even decided to take an informal course just so I could at least have a basic grasp of grammar, words and phrases. I've been taking Japanese for about 4 years now, but I'm still not very good at it. But at least I understand a heck of a lot more than I did in 1993 or 4. ^_^ Anyway, eventually I got copies of the other movie and the 3rd series from Walter, and the 4th series from Scott. And I've bought the first LD box, with the intention of buying the rest in the future. It's a long-term goal sort of thing. Anyway, I'm a big time collector of "stuff". It's an addiction that has forced me to rent storage and install much shelving, but it makes me happy. I collect trading cards, cels, other trading card-like items (idol cards, shitajiki, phone cards, etc.), videos, CDs, posters, manga, artbooks, models, figures, other toys, etc. I'm happy to say that I have a significant LoGH collection of cels, cards, and books. I don't have any of the model kits, but then again, I'm not that good at putting them together. I figure Scott can do that, and keep the rest of us informed. ^_^ Oh, and I'm also a sometime-writer of bizarre fanfics, but that's another story. . . . On a somewhat off-topic note (I bet a lot won't even read this far anyway), does anyone know if there is a GOOD Gundam W mailing list around? Every one I've tried is full of more than slightly obsessed yaoi-lovin' fans, and the conversations are impossible to follow. While I enjoy a little yaoi as much as anyone ^_- I would like to find a mailing list that's a little more 'sane' than those, where the story and other characters get discussed instead of listening to people just drooling over the guys. Especially if it includes discussions of the current CN run with open-minded people who don't dismiss the dub simply because it's dubbed. So far, the most interesting discussions I've read have been on rec.arts.anime.misc. -_- There's gotta be a normal Gundam mailing list somewhere. If you know of one, please let me know. Best to do it privately so that I don't piss off too many people. Thanks!! Jennifer jcaliff@nsai-petro.com http://users.ev1.net/~jcaliff/iserlohn.htm PISCES!
