Re: [LoGH] Life expectancy

So, even with so many people getting blown to bits in space, the men and
women slaving away at an assembly line will prolly live for a long time.

Also, quoting LoGH, retired military people tend to live for a long time,
because they eat and exercise regularly (out of habit from active duty
days?).

In the first Gaiden OVA series, Silver Valley, we saw a storyline centered
on ground combat. Both sides used tanks and infantry, rather than oribital
bombardments.

(I always wondered why they don't just drop some high explosives from space,
but then war doesn't have to be logical.)

Thinking back, I can't recall a situation where both sides duke it out with
tanks in a populated city? The civian death rate would be much higher in
that case.

When the Empire or FPA conquer a planet, it seems that the political body
just bend over when they see lots of shiny ships decend on their capital.

But if they actually decide to fight, then what? Bombardment from space
reduce city to rubble? Armored tanks smash into Starbucks Coffee while
chasing down rock-throwing students?

Also, where's the MAD factor? I can understand the hesitation in using
NCB/genetic-genocidal weapons due to MAD factor (which leads to treaties
that the leadership actually abide by). But if they had the capability,
then it's more likely that both sides would be in a cold war instead of a
shooting war.

This is really a tough call; Rikako's points are all valid as well -- I
believe that during the USG's peak; life expentency was probably pretty good
(100-120 years possibly) -- however from the GE onward the galaxy is
experiencing a dark age.

Moreover, when you have populations as large as the Free Planets and
Galactic
Empire I'm sure good health care is probably available to the rich and
noble.

It's actually kind of moot because so many are dying in combat; and on the
Imperial side you have a lot of assassinations and so forth so the leading
cause of death is... man himself.

It's an interesting topic.
