[LoGH] Cosplay, FPA uniforms

I've been trying to make a half-decent FPA type uniform, something i could
wear to the Anime conventions i'm hoping to attend when i move to the USA
next year. My grandmother's making me some insignias and patches, that sort
of thing, based on what i've shown her from LoGH. What i was wondering was
if anyone had any idea on what sort of material i should use for the jacket,
or if there's any existing style of military jacket i could use? Do any
patterns exist among the costumers here for this sort of thing?
