Actually from some other posts on here and in the past from people who have
read the novels, Julian feels more than just "friendship" for Frederica, he
has a real crush on her. When she and Yang tie the knot, he takes off not
only because she can take over the housekeeping job and all, but becuase he
probably couldn't stand being around when his object of desire was in the arms
of another. This is more evident in the 3rd series, when during the marriage
scene, when Yang and Frederica kiss, Julian is forced to look away and hide
his eyes.

Well one of my favorite scenes in the 3rd series is where he first meets
Katherose von Kreutzer, as she removes her Spartanian pilot's helmet and her
long red hair falls out. Julian's eyes widen like saucers, and I almost
expect the boy to start muttering in an Costello-like voice "humina humina
humina" ^_^
