Well, simple. The Taiwan Chinese version breaks each original volume into
2. Thus, for content-wise, you are getting the same thing as the original
10 volumes, but you just get 20 books instead.

Well, yes and no. Taiwan had 2 versions of the novel published. The old
version (black cover) was unlicensed, but I think it's extincted now. The
new version (silver cover), which published by Sharp Point, is licensed and
currently in print. I've heard that the translation of the old version is
better, but the name translation is more consistent in the new version. As
I've nerver read the old version and only buy licensed version, I can't
comment on the comparision (but the translation of the new version, while
not the best, still toleratable). Now, come to the price, I don't know how
much is the original Japanese books sell for, but consider 2 Chinese volume
= 1 original volume, it probably won't be any cheaper (NT$260 ~= US$10 when
using the official exchange rate, but judging from the price of the other
books, COL probably charges it at around US$8 per book).
