Julian stood just outside the edge of the fire that was swiftly comsuming his home. From within the fire, he could see his mother reaching out towards him. "Julian, you must go to Odin. There your destiny awaits." The words echoed in his ears. He screamed as he reached out towards the vanishing form of his mother, but before he could reach her, he woke up. Meanwhile, on Odin, Reinhart and Kircheis had just returned from battle. They had just arrived to see Annerose, Reinhart's sister. However, when they stepped out of the Lincoln Continental, Annerose greeted them with an unusually solemn expression. "Sister, is something wrong?" Reinhart couldn't bear the unhappy look on his sister's face. "Did something happen?" Annerose, realizing she was upsetting Reinhart, tried to make herself look cheerful. "I'm fine. Why don't we all go inside and have some cake. Seig looks as if he could use some good food. Don't they feed you on those ships?" Laughing, they all went inside, but both Reinhart and Kircheis could tell that something was wrong. Julian got himself a drink of water. Currently, he and his cat were the only two living things in the house. "Or so I hope," Julian thought. Yang was supposed to return from the battle tonight, so Julian would again be able to keep himself occupied picking up after his somewhat sloppy guardian. That was good. It gave him something to think about other than the dream. Ever since his mother had died that night, he'd had the same dream. Lately, he seemed to be having it more and more often. "But what does it mean?" Julain said to himself, "I can't just go to Odin. We're at war. Maybe if I can get Yang to let be become a soldier . . ." The thought drifted off and Julian turned out the light and went back to bed. Both Reinhart and Kircheis were starting on their second peices of cake while Annerose simply sat and stared at both of them. Kircheis decided to break the uncomfortable silence. "Lady Annerose, your garden looks especially nice today. Are those peonys?" Annerose just stared blankly into space. Kircheis and Reinhart glanced at each other. Suddenly, Annerose spoke. "I had a dream last night. I dreamed that a young man would come to Odin." She looked directly at Reinhart. "He held Odin, the empire, no, the universe in his hands. Reinhart, I'm afraid. That young man will have the power to destroy the universe." Tears welled up in Annerose's eyes as she turned away from them. Reinhart stood up and seemed tempted to reach across the table to his sister, to console her. "Sister, as long as I am here, I swear that I will not let anyone hurt you. This dream may be just that, a dream. But if this person does come to Odin, I'll stop him before anything happens, I promise." Annerose looked up a Reinhart. Kircheis sat quietly, looking at them both. He wanted to say something, but nothing seemed appropriate. Elsewhere in the Empire, a man with cybernetic eyes gazed at the stars, but few knew that he saw much more. "The Promised Day is upon us," he said to himself. "He will come."
