The other thing to consider is LoGH takes place in the mid 36th century, and
while the past 600 years have gone through some level of decline, they are
still quite far ahead of us in technology.
So the issues with the metal staying liquid could be addressed somehow.
Other issues that would need to be addressed include some kind of magnetic
field or some other method needs to keep the liquid metal layer above the
physical surface of Iserlohn.
