With the Westerland massacre, the nobles lost every other planet they held and were desperate enough to charage out of Iserlohn to die. There are more people in Reinhard's fleet than the population of Westerland. If the massacre hadn't happened, the nobles would have managed to hold on. Reinhard would have been stuck trying to take Geirsburg with his supply lines being exhausted. >> > The real reason the massacre was allowed to happen is that Oberstein >>wanted it to happen. Was this the reason >for his distaste for the nobles? And why he followed Reinhard? This is also true in the anime. Reinhard helps Oberstein because Oberstein tells Reinhard that he hates the nobles and the Goldenbaum dynasty must fall. Oberstein also impresses Reinhard because he is able to do things Kircheis isn't capable of (like shooting an unarmed person which isn't a threat). Oberstein is assigned to handle court intrigue for Reinhard and helps save Annerose's life. Oberstein also demonstates his cybernetic eye when he announces his hatred of the nobles. Earlier in episode 4, Oberstein says that in Rudolph's time he would have been disposed of under the Superior Genetics Law for his blindness. I think that is why Oberstein hates the nobles because the founder of the Galactic Empire passed laws which would have killed Oberstein if Oberstein had been alive then. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
