The direct-hit situation was never in doubt, we were primarily discussing
soft-kill potential. If you could ask your friend what kind of distance
ranges he is talking about for EMP and rad effects, that would be
interesting.

If it's anything less than 50-100 klicks, then they're not really
relevant, I think.

No one that we know of has conducted deep space nuclear testing, so, the
effective range of EMP is questionable.

Which brings us to the question of, what sort of defense do these ships have
against EMP/EMP weapons?  What type of shielding do the ships have, and how
effective are they?

LoGH does not address these little things.  It's a space opera, not a sci-fi
geek show.

I have this mental picture of Ikari Shinji on the deck of a FPA cruiser,
yelling "I don't wanna do this", as Imperial ships rain impressive array of
weapons on the cruiser, which are all rendered ineffective by an AT field
generated by the powers of a magical wand, silver crystal, and a floating
mechanical cat head in the shape of a balloon.
