Hello Walter and Chi-ming,
welcome to the list, and thanks for being the first two members to join.
I just posted an announcement to r.a.a.i, and I'm going to post to r.a.a
as well, so hopefully we'll be getting some more people on this list.
I've written a brief intro for the list, which can be read by anybody
who requests info through the majordomo program. It may sound sort of
familiar, but that's probably because its inspiration is the
introductions I found in you guys' web pages (which are both awesome, BTW).
here it is. let me know if you note any glaring mistakes or have any
suggestions.

Legends of the Galactic Heroes (LoGH) is an anime (Japanese animation)
series based on a series of science fiction novels published beginning in 1982.
Currently, the anime consists of 54 episodes and 2 movies, with more in
the works. It also exists in manga (Japanese comic book) form.
LoGH is different from other anime in that there are no giant
transforming robots, funky martial artists, or babes in sailor suits. If
you're looking for any of these things you'll be disappointed here.
LoGH is far more serious. It's like an epic opera set in space. Set
somewhere in distant space in the 28th century, LoGH is a story of the
titanic struggle going on between the Galactic Empire, a dynastic
monarchy based on 19th century Prussia, and the Free Planets Alliance, a
nominal republic. All types of characters, from high nobility, admirals,
and politicans, to common soldiers and farmers, are interweaved into the
story. Throw in a classical music soundtrack, and you've got a pretty
darn good series.
Simply put, the spectacle of thousands of battlecruisers in precise
formations locked in mortal combat while the strains of 'Bolero' play in
the background is just awesome.
Hope you enjoy the mailing list.
