In my opinion, he resembles Zhuge Liang, the strategical genius who
lived in the period of Three Kindoms in Chinse history(ca. 210 A.D.) They
could both fool their competent enemies into unexpected traps, saving the
day with more than luck. Also, they both died in service, Yang for the
ideal of democracy, Zhuge Liang for the unification of China. I could be
wrong but the author's introduction inside the cover of the novels stated
that Tanaka is very familiar with this part of Chinse history.
