Actually they had turned into some sort of opponents ...

After the nuclear attack on the planet (don't know the name ... I watch
Chinese sub and Chinese novel), when Kircheis criticize Reinhart's
decision on not sending out the interception fleet, Reinhart asked "who
are you to me?" (or something similar) and after a brief pause, Kircheis
answered "I'm your loyal subordinate." ... Their relationship will change
forever after this. However, killer Tanaka kill Kircheis off before the
effect of the this new relationship show up. [I had a really sad feeling
after that scene].

Actually after Kircheis's death, his position is partly replaced by
Hilter ... her part becomes more and more important in the later series.
However, she still cannot bring back the old Reinhart (I think no one
will ever be able to). His change of altitude is shown right before the
end of part I ... "Too many blood has bleeded ... and several drops more
[from the family of the old prime minister] won't make a different".

Towards the end of the story, Reinhart has become more and more
"blood-thirsty" ... up to the second series, nearly all the war that he
fought have some meaning in it (defeat the nobles, punish/conquer the
Alliance) but after that, I'll say most of the battles involved are
meaningless and can be avoided by peaceful way. Especially the battles
that will appear in the 4th series (I won't say much since it will be
spoilers for almost all ppl here) I think that they are all avoidable. It
is Reinhart's thought of "I can't live without battle" killed millions of
ppl in the last 2 serieses.

In some sense, I think that Reinhart's change is partly caused by Oberstine
... he's my most-hated character in the story. However, Reinhart himself
can't avoid the blame. His good side -- represented by Kircheis, has died
with his red hair friend.
