Didn't I see a spoiler for the novels in which it's revealed
that Trunhilt has been playing a quiet "democracy renovation
plan" all along, the existence of which is only revealed
when he is killed? IE, he's plotting to become an
Augustus or a Claudius, a "restorer of the republic".

Hell, as a republican and a Republican, I'm
generally more in favor of such institutions to
raw democracy. If you ask me, the British model
of democracy (parliament, leaders elected by
coalition, etc) is inherently weak, mostly
because most emulators of the British fail to
include a House of Lords (or equivilent
Senatorial house) to provide stability.
