It's pointless to launch fighters at long ranges. The problem is that there
are several instances where the Imperials get to close range too quickly.
Surprised FPA commanders have a tendacy to complain about how did the enemy
get there instead of reacting to it. By the time they issue the order to
launch fighters, it is often too late.

Based on a few of the episodes, it is a major FPA concern.
