Exceptions include the Brunhild, Beowulf, Tristan, and Parcival which don't
seem to have weapons running along the full axis of the ship. Beowulf has 6
guns under the bow (maybe an attempt at a close range ship?) while the
others appear to have their guns scattered round for more all round coverage
but less concentrated volley power.

  While most FPA have

In addition to the reasons below, the larger number of guns on FPA ships
(especially flagships) could mean a steadier level of firepower through
using volley fire (as the Leonidas is seen doing) and/or one overwhelming
strike (although this appears to go overboard into overkill)

Since energy beams difuse as it travels,

Nicely put. That's 6 million btw :P

Could be that the fighters have short endurance in both weapons and reaction
mass (see how many times Julian has to refuel in eps. 27). There would be
thus little advantage in launching them against a distant enemy.

The Imperials seem to have enlisted and officer mess halls, with the Kaiser
apparently having a reception hall that is like a ballroom.
The FPA seems to have canteen type enlisted mess halls with some marginally
better facilities for the officers. Moore from the 6th Fleet gets to eat
steak and basically a normal meal (although the decoration is spartan) while
lower ranks (like Julian) have to make do with what looks like bad airline
food. No wonder there was a revolution! :)
