I don't think they will do planetary bombardment. Something about an
ancient 13 days war when nukes were used. Also, I don't think the
energy beams are very effective in atmosphere, having to shot through a
few hundred miles/km of it. Now what is weird is that there arn't that
much close air support. Ofcouse the novel was written before Desert
Storm. But the German blitz use lots of aircraft with ground troops.
And we don't see much of that in the LoGH planetary battles. Ofcourse
the battles are just things to move the stories along.
