Hello...

Could it really only be Reuentahl's own ambition that brought about his 
downfall?  I mean he has too much pride to go back and beg for forgiveness.  
Besides, the death of Lutz ( sorry about the spelling ) doesn't leave him a 
lot of rooms in the Empire.  With almost everyone turned against him, I mean 
the influential ones, it left him no choice.  He said before he died that he 
did not betray the Emperor.
