Hello,

Oberstein is quite right in pointing out the co-existence of the "light
side" and "dark side" of Reinhard when he persuates Reinhard to accept
his service (Season I). They are represented (in a certain sense) by
Kircheis and Oberstein respectively. If one accepts this view, then the
tragic death of Kircheis does not lead to anything like personality
reversal of Reinhard. I would rather call it a loss of balance. Until
the return of badly injured Mueller after the "Fortress vs Fortress",
Reinhard is dominated by his "dark side". During this period, Hilda,
foreseeing that Reinhard would become a second Rudolf the Great if he
continued in this way, vows (to herself) to fight against this trend.
She succeeds in partially restoring the balance, with the help of
Kircheis's ghost inside Reinhard's heart.
