Okay, someone (Ondine?) was complaining about a dirth of LoGH fanfics,
so here's an idea I came up with.

WARNING! END OF 1ST SERIES SPOILERS AHEAD!

This is obviously set in an alternate timeline but assume that
everything happens accordingly up to episode 26. From thereon, nothing
counts. What little we know about earth in this series doesn't count in
this fanfic. (Except the religious cult of course.) I also made up the
part about her mother. Deal.

BTW, don't take this too seriously. :-)

This story would be called:

THE SECRET LIFE OF THE ROSE

Annerose von Greunewald (excuse my spelling) was sad, angry, and
generally pissed at the world. The man she was in love with was dead,
and her own brother hadn't had the guts to tell her himself. She
realized now that she'd had enough. Her whole life, she'd lived only
for others. Now it was time to start living for herself.

Ever since she'd come to court, she knew that this day would come. All
her dreams and her ambitions had been put on hold. But secretly, she
continued to perfect her mind and body. Daily, she put herself through
rigorous physical training in anticipation. She'd studied every book in
the Imperial library until she knew them all by heart. But now the
emperor was dead and it seemed that her brother (the ungrateful little
twerp) would finally realize his own dreams. Her time had come.

She went to the closet and started pulling out clothes. Practical
clothes, not like those ridiculous dresses she had been forced to wear
at court. She had already moved out of her brother's house. By the
time he realized she was gone, it would be too late. It had cost a lot
of money to secure a fake id, but who would notice? The amount of graft
and corruption present in the Imperial household was only comparable to
the stupidity of those involved. God, she hated dealing with idiots.
She'd always smiled, pretending to be such a *nice* girl. None of them
knew the truth.

Using her new identity, she'd booked a flight on a transport ship bound
for Earth. There, she could build her new life. No one there would
recognize her. Ever since her mother had been killed by that drunken
idiot, Annerose had had a single dream. Those people, those FOOLS who
took human life so casually - the ones who refused to take
responsibility for their actions - they didn't deserve to live.

On Earth, she used the money she'd stolen to rent an apartment. Once
she'd settled in, she immediately went to a salon and got her hair cut
and styled. For years she'd worn her hair long. With the hair gone,
she felt as though a great weight had been lifted from her shoulders.
She felt like a new person.

That night, back at her apartment, she opened her bag. Night had
fallen; it was time to begin her quest. She took out the clothes she
had dreamed of wearing. She'd made them herself the day Reinhart had
left to fight the nobles. There'd never been any question in her mind
that he would win. It was just a matter of time. Still, she hadn't
expected that Seig would die. Perhaps, if he hadn't, she would have
stayed on Odin. No, it wouldn't have worked out. Love was meaningless
in the face of politics. She knew that.

With her thoughts back in the present, she slipped on the costume. It
was practical, but intimidating. Dark green, to blend in with the
night. A mask, to conceal her identity. And a cape. The cape wasn't
very practical, but somehow it just felt right. She armed herself with
poisoned roses for throwing and the rose whip she'd had specially made
(weapons gratuitously borrowed from other anime - so sue me). She
opened the window and slipped out into the night air.

Beware, oh scum and villainy. Beware, for tonight, terror strikes.
Terror known as THE ROSE.
