I think Oberstein was left in charge of the security details.
When Kircheis was about to enter the room, the guard asked him to turn
over his weapon. Kircheis said something like "well, I'm Siegfried
Kircheis." The guard was flustered and said okay go on ahead, but being
the nice guy he was, Kircheis insisted on turning his weapon in.

Weren't there guards in the room? Certainly they could have done
somethings.

It was amazing how the other Admirals just stood and watched. If even one
or two of them had stepped in to help Kircheis, they would have been able
to overpower Ansbach. It wasn't like there wasn't time either- Kircheis
struggled with Ansbach for about ~5 seconds.

My impression was that the other Admirals were not especially eager to
help Kircheis, due to jealousy over his close relationship with
Lord Reinhard. This may have explained why nobody stepped forward to help
him.

I don't think even proper first aid would have helped Kircheis,
considering where he was shot.
