For what it's worth, I agree that Oberstein's insistence on everyone
being disarmed was the cause of Kircheis' death. As a fanfic writer who
likes the character, I could find lots of reasons for Oberstein's
actions, but I'm not going to go into them here. Personally, I think
that it'd be great to write an alternate "What If" story about Kircheis
surviving and Oberstein dying. I admit, if *I* wrote it, I'd be biased.
I don't think things would have necessarily been any better/more perfect
in that scenario than the one that *was* written. Still, I'd love to see
it.
