When I just started the series, I liked Reihnhard the best; I felt that his
relationship with Seig was the most interesting relationship, and that his
imperial attitude and general strength of character were just the greatest.

Now, though, I have to say my favorite is Yang. I'll try to explain: the
depth of his 'goodness' is amazing, the things he says *ring* true. In
short, this is a man in want of absolutely nothing and is perfectly content
with just being around friends. Look at the people around him, what they
think and feel, and look at the people around Reinhard and ask the same
question.

MINOR EPS 39+ SPOILERS

Look at Reuntal's first glimmers of rebellion or at Hilda's fear of
Reinhard's detat emotional health (she's always giving him sad/concerned
looks); even Seig fought with him just before his death. Do any of Yang's
people worry about him doing something unjust, unfair, or something just
plain wrong? Of course not, and if you suggested the possibility, they
would laugh at you because they know better.

MINOR EPS 20+ SPOILERS

A scene which really represents how those close to Yang feel about him is
the one in which Fredirica shows up at Yang's office just after her father
declared himself the leader of the coup-detat, fully expecting herself to
be dismissed. Of course Yang didn't. But look at who was spectating that
event: Schenkopp. This is was a man who's bitter and skeptical to the core,
and he really liked Yang. Liked him so much, he was very worried about
Fredirica being dismissed, because that would justify his skepticism of
people, and he hoped against hope and his own judgment that Yang would
fulfill his greatest expectations in a person ("If Yang does fire her over
this, he's not so great after all") and of course Yang fills his
expectations. The moral relief he must have felt probably cemented their
relationship until death. And right afterwards, he comes right out and
tells Yang he should defeat the coup and take over for himself. After that,
his attitude toward Yang is nothing short of worshipful, and for good
reason ("I don't care about nations or if the Alliance falls, but if Yang
dies like that, history would never forgive us").

END SPOILERS

And, of course, you have to love the way he's always getting in those
little remarks to politicians ("Rejoice all you want", "If you're jealous
we can trade places,") and they way he facefaults whenever he sees them on
TV :)
