I just got a cool new videotape today from my friend Dave Merrill
(chairman of Anime Weekend Atlanta) with a collection of various video
shorts, including an odd little piece from BBC television with some
bald British host guy lampooning the interest in these bizarre Jap
cartoons. I am generally used to this kind of nonsense from hack
journalists looking for a sensationalistic "look at those weirdos" kind
of story on fandom, except in this case what did the guy hold up as an
example of "Sex and Violence anime"? Well, as you may have guessed,
considering I am posting this to this list, his example was

LEGEND OF THE GALACTIC HEROES !!!!!!

How, you may ask, did he get excessive violence from LoGH? By
extracting out of the about 12 hours of footage comprising the first
season the only 45 seconds that has actual hand to hand fighting and
bloodshed, namely Mittermeyer and Reuental's attack on Fortress
Rentenberg where Ovlesser cut all their troops in half with loads of
gushing blood. This was of course followed by the scene where Ovlesser
is executed by Ansbach, with blood gushing out of his ear canal onto
the floor of the Geiersburg Fortress Throne room.

Not that any of this is really especially important in the long run but
I thought this was about the only place I could vent and have anyone
appreciate what I was talking about. Now for those of you with
sensitive eyes or weak constitutions, you may wish to stop reading this
post now.

Ahem.

YOU FAT, BALD, LIMY SON OF A BITCH!!!!! YOU IGNORANT OBNOXIOUS SMUG
SMARMY TEA-SIPPING MOTHERFUCKER!!!! WE'LL BOMB LONDON AGAIN AND GET IT
RIGHT THIS TIME!!!!!!!!!

Excuse me. We now return you to your regular programming.
