Spoilers from season 4 ahead!

I think this was covered by an earlier post, but I'll recap, since I'm deep
into the last two novels of this series right now, and I have most of the
details down pat...

Reinhart gets *very*depressed when, during a murder attempt on him, he is
reminded of his failure aat Westerland to prevent the massarcre of vcivilians
by nuclear bomb. He drinks even more than usual. CBasically, he orders
Hilda (rather nicelkly, to be sure, but you don't say No to an Emperor) to
stay with him, and they end up having a one-night stand.

The next day, he comes by with mondo roses and tries to see her at home,
and even tries to ask her father if he can marry her, but they both know it's
out of guilt, so they make him wait.

When he goes off on his next campaingn (, she is left at home, due to "illness,"
which is actually pregnancy that she hides from him. By the time he gets back,
she's getting "big," and he proposes agin; this time she accepts.

They have a hurried wedding in January, before she's showing too much. This
is followed by a hosshort, rather awkward honeymoon; he still calls her
"Fraulein Mariendorf" despite his sister's admonishment. (This weedding is
what finally brings Annerose to reconcile with him!)

Soon Reinhart is at war again, this time with Julian's forces, and
Hilda bears his son while he's away. His son is not 3 months old when
Reinhart dies. Despite what Reinahrt said earlier, he still wants his son
to succeed him, and makes Mittermeier's son (actually Reuental's but...)
swaerear to be as good afriend to him as Kir to little Alexander as Kircheis was to him..

* In a nutshell * Short marriage, eh?
