I've been (along with the Info Center, I swear I'm working on it ;) ) working on a new type of subtitling project. One of the problems with subtitling Galactic Heroes is displaying all the necessary text (usually 3-4 lines worth if it's a dialogue-heavy scene) - this can be even more problematic if a character title is being displayed (usually it involves blacking it out and making a new one elsewhere). Thanks to RealMedia G2 and the new "RealText" option, it is now possible to play back live subtitles beneath the video picture. I have not only embarked on such a project, but at this time I've completed 22 episodes. Each episode is approximately 30MB in this format, and currently I do not have a FTP site where I could even consider putting these online. CD-R is a possibility. You may be curious as to how it looks and how the technology works. RealVideoG2 allows one (or more) text streams to be referenced. The text stream files are very HTML like, except with time codes. (The real boon here is someone could translate the text in the .rt [RealText] files into, say French or German, and boom, instant French or German titles.) Currently G2 is available for Windows 9x and NT - but Mac and other OSes are on the way (and promised for Dec/Jan). I have found that on the Windows platform, you need at least a Pentium 133 with 32MB RAM for good playback. Well if you're still reading this, I'll assume you're curious. I've created a SUBTITLED trailer (it doesn't spoil anything) that runs 3 and a half minutes in this format. It is 4.6MB, simply download and unzip. There's a readme for how to play it in your RealMediaG2 Player. The Trailer: http://www.nwlink.com/~logh/media/lgh_tr01.zip The Player: http://www.real.com - Lee Thompson shadow@nwlink.com
