a question i had,

does anyone have any idea what they use for money in the empire and the
alliance? i've seen what looks like gold coinage in the empire (most of
the commoners seem to lead a remarkably low-tech existence). but in the
alliance, we see people use what seem to be cash/debit cards.

and Scott Swoboda (1SWO%mimi@magic.itg.ti.com) said:

uh, that doesn't exactly *answer* my question. i mean, i didn't ask
how the empire and alliance respectively financed their fleet construction
programmes. i just wanted to know how an ordinary person, whether a
commoner in the empire or a factory worker in the alliance, pays for a loaf
of bread. what do they use for currency, etc. do they use paper money?

unless you mean that they each evolved a system of "debt-passing", like
exchanging IOUs instead of cash. i had no idea that the reich practiced
"reaganomics"! ;-)
